STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Stratford woman has surrendered to police following a hit-and-run accident involving a motorcycle that took place Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred just before 3:30 p.m.

Police said a 4-door sedan struck a motorcycle on Barnum Ave., near California St., then fled the scene. The road was shut down while police investigated.

Many stopped, many starred, and many wonder who was unfortunate enough to have been in control of the damaged motorcycle. And there was one who knew just by color of the bike.

"We were on our way home, we noticed there was a motorcycle accident, a friend of ours died a couple of weeks ago, stopped to look, we realized it was someone we knew," Beatrice Ramos said.

The motorcycle rider, who has been identified as 25-year-old David Weiler, of Bridgeport, sustained serious injuries in the crash. Weiler was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he is reported to be in critical, but stable condition.

Ramos had a hard time walking away from the scene.

"That's the gas tank there, that's the side fender, that's the brake line over there, and some kind of piece of the motorcycle I'm not sure what it is," said Ramos.

And his ride was left lying on the street.

"He would go by our street every day, about 5, 5:15, nice guy, must have been on his way home," Ramos said.

She went on to say, "what bothers me, it's not the motorcycle driver, it's other people not being cautious, that's what's causing all these accidents. Other people not being aware of these motorcycles on the street."

Following the collision, police were searching for a white or silver 4-door sedan, similar to a Mazda 4-door. The driver was described as a white female in her 20's, with blond hair.

The driver, Courtney Holifield, of Stratford, surrendered to police a short time later.

Holifield was arrested and charged with felony evading.

Additional charges are expected pending the outcome of the investigation.
