WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man was arrested Sunday night for a January car crash that killed two of his passengers and left another seriously injured.
The accident occurred on January 1st, on I-95 northbound near Exit 19 in Westport.
Police said Jamain J. Allen, 32, was driving a Nissan Altima northbound on I-95 when he lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the right shoulder, and rolled down an embankment.
Two of the vehicle's passengers were pronounced dead on the scene. While a third was seriously injured.
After investigating, police found that Allen lost control as a result of excessive speed, and he was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.
Allen was arrested at his home Sunday night. At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Allen was charged with operation of a motor vehicle when registration or license is refused/suspended/revoked, driving to endanger, operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to drive in the proper lane, second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and second-degree assault with a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Allen was held on a $500,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court Monday.
