Man on motorized wheelchair struck & killed

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Bridgeport man died after being struck by an SUV while riding a motorized wheelchair in the city Friday.

Police said 59-year-old Richard Meldon, of West Liberty St., was riding his wheelchair on Park Ave., near Washington Terrace, when he collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Meldon was taken to Saint Vincent's Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the SUV has been identified as Windsor L. Francis, 45, of Bridgeport.

The accident remains under investigation.
