WESTFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts State Police have released the identity of the Connecticut man who died when his car crashed on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Westfield over the weekend.
Authorities said Monday that 20-year-old Colter Abley of Middletown, Conn. was the only occupant of the vehicle that left the westbound lanes of the highway and struck a tree at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The preliminary investigation shows that speed was a factor in the single vehicle crash.
Police say the man was heading west on Interstate 90 when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the shoulder of the roadway. The car struck a tree on the driver's side of the vehicle. Emergency medical service workers pronounced him dead at the scene.
