Driver in the Route 8 accident died on impact

SHELTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- The driver of a vehicle in an accident on Route 8 on Saturday died on impact, police say.

A vehicle lost control in heavy rain Saturday afternoon along Route 8 northbound, near exit 12.

As a result, the vehicle went off the road and struck a tree in the median of the highway.

The driver, Rodney Francis, 67, was pronounced dead on the scene from his injuries.

An initial investigation forced the left late in both directions of Route 8 in the vicinity of the accident to be closed for several hours.

Police ask any persons who witnessed the accident to contact the State Police at (203) 393-4200, ext. 3025.
