MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A serious two-car accident has shut down New Hanover Road and left one person in critical condition, police say.
A head-on collision occurred around 4:34 p.m. on New Hanover Road.
Gina Dighello-Calabro was traveling the wrong way when she struck a grey Nissan driven by Lemuel Cardona and Ashley Kratzenberg, who was the passenger.
Calabro needed to be extricated from the vehicle and was airlifted via Lifestar to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
Cardona was sent to Hartford Hospital, and Kratzenberg was sent to St. Mary's, where both are in stable condition.
Police said no one in the accident was wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
