NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) -- One person was killed in a two-car collision on I-395 Saturday morning when one of the vehicles became airborne, police say.
Police said that a Jeep, driven by Paul Pluff, 52, collided into the back of Volkswagen Jetta, operated by Daniel Humbert, 19. Both vehicles were traveling northbound on I-395 about a half mile south of exit 81E.
The Jetta came to a controlled stop in the right-hand breakdown lane. The Jeep drove off the right-hand embankment and proceeded to strike a tree and became airborne.
Pluff was ejected from the Jeep as it went into the air and the vehicle eventually came to a stop.
The passenger inside the Jeep, Marcia Pluff, was pronounced dead on the scene. Paul Pluff was transported to Backus Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Humbert was not injured in the accident.
The right lane of the highway was closed for some time due to an investigation into the accident.
The accident happened at approximately 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
