SOUTHBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- I-84 westbound is back open in Southbury after a multi-vehicle accident.
The crash happened on I-84 W between exits 16 and 15 and involved at least two tractor trailers and two cars.
All westbound lanes were closed at one point, but the Department of Transportation says the highway has reopened.
A tractor trailer, driven by Jaspal Singh of Hyde Park, NY, was traveling in the left center lane of four lanes when traffic ahead stopped due to construction by DOT.
The tractor trailer struck the rear of a car driven by Jillian Zampaglione of Winsted, who was also in the left center lane. The vehicle driven by Zampaglione then hit a car driven by Diane Drakeley of Southbury, also in the left center lane.
Zampaglione's car came to rest facing North in the left center lane.
Drakeley's car then struck the rear of a tractor trailer driven by Edward Daley in the left center lane and came to rest in the right center lane facing west.
The tractor trailer driven by Singh then veered left and struck a 5th car driven by Ralph King of Ottsville, PA. The tractor trailer then came to rest in the center median.
Singh complained of neck pain, Zampaglione suffered serious injuries, Drakeley complained of neck and back pain and the other two drivers were not injured.
The accident remains under investigation.
