Transformer explodes in Redding

REDDING, Conn. (WTNH) -- Route 107 in Redding is partially closed due to a transformer explosion.

Officials say wires are down in the area of Lee Lane following the explosion.

About 350 CL&P customers are without power as a result. CL&P crews are on the scene making repairs.

Motorists are being asked to seek an alternative route and to expect delays.

Authorities estimate the scene will be cleared in about four hours, or around 3:30 p.m.
