WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police in Waterbury are investigating after a woman drove her car into a BJ's Tuesday morning.
The accident happened around 9:30 a.m., at a BJ's located at 344 Reidville Drive.
Police said 40-year-old Lilian Schaaf was driving a grey 2007 Ford Edge when it suddenly accelerated and drove into the side of the BJ's.
"She said it suddenly accelerated, she lost control, she could not stop the vehicle and it slammed into the side of the building," said Capt. Chris Corbett, Waterbury PD.
Remarkably, the driver escaped from the accident unharmed.
The accident was open when it happened, but nobody was hurt.
It did make for a morning of 'vacuuming and cleaning up' for workers, and BJ's tells News 8 that despite all the drama, the store was never forced to close.
As for the cause of the wreck, police need to take a close look at the Ford Edge.
"It varies, sometimes we've had cases like this where the accelerator stuck or something," said Capt. Corbett, "or sometimes the person hits the gas instead of the brake or sometimes there have been mechanical issues."
For all involved, the driver, the workers and shoppers, it was a bad start to a Tuesday morning.
However, given the scene, it's clear the outcome could have been considerably worse.
Schaaf was not injured in the crash and no charges have been filed at this time.
The accident remains under investigation.
