New Haven (WTNH) - West Haven Police say a pick-up truck they pulled over on the Kimberly Avenue bridge Saturday night had homemade explosives inside.
The driver, 49-year-old Marlon Reddick of New Haven, was arrested and faces numerous charges including possession of explosive devices and manufacturing of bombs.
Department officials say when they pulled the truck over at 11 p.m. for equipment violations, officers saw a clear baggie full of pills on the passenger side. They asked Reddick to step out of the truck as they continued to search it.
When police found a duffle bag containing metal cylinders with wicks behind the front seat, they immediately left the truck and shut down the area.
The New Haven Police Department's Bomb Squad was called to the scene and found two improvised explosive devices in the bag, which they confirmed were homemade bombs.
Police also found a sawed-off shotgun, bullet proof vest, dark-colored clothing and a ski mask inside the truck.
Kimberly Avenue and some nearby streets were closed in the area for approximately five hours as police investigated at the scene. They say the investigation is still ongoing.
Reddick is being held on $250,000 bond.
