New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - A big piece of the new I-95/Route 34 connector went into place in New Haven early Wednesday.
Construction crews put up the first of many steel beams to connect I-95 Northbound to Route 34 Westbound. To do that they had to shut down the highway temporarily.
It took the crews just 20 minutes to actually do it. It all has to be choreographed perfectly because they can't do it over moving traffic.
Another beam will be put in place Thursday night into Friday morning, so some lanes will be shut down again from about 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
This portion of the work on the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing will be going on for four months. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2016.
