HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The oldest, continuously operating ferry in the country, the Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry across the Connecticut River, has returned to a seven-day-a-week schedule.
The ferry began operating at a full schedule on July 1. It will be in effect on Wednesday.
Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker said the full schedule became possible after two new crew members were hired. Those positions had been vacant for more than a year, forcing a reduction in operating hours.
Redeker said the public will also see more descriptive signing on roads leading to both the Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry and the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry . The improved signage stems from recommendations received by the Connecticut River Task Force, which was created two years ago when the ferries were slated to close due to budget cuts.
