Southington, Conn. (WTNH) - A driver was trapped when his big rig went down an embankment.

The traffic never stopped flowing along I-84 even as crews worked to rescue the driver from the crushed cab.

Life Star arrived moments after the tractor trailer slid down the embankment, slamming into a tree, and as a result pinning the driver in the cab.

It happened Tuesday morning right by the exit 32 ramp along I-84 in Southington. The ramp was closed at the time of the accident, but it was reopened around 2:50 p.m.

Firefighters surrounded the cab and were able to talk to the driver as they worked to free him.

A door had to be cut off, but when he was pulled out witnesses could see his hands moving.

Officials say his injuries are not life threatening.

The truck was carrying diapers and when it hit the tree the impact split open the trailer and packages of diapers spilled out.

The accident also caused a small fuel spill, requiring environmental crews to be called to the scene.

State police are investigating what caused the accident.
