Westport (WTNH) - A jackknifed tractor trailer closed northbound traffic on I-95 in Westport for about three hours Tuesday, reducing the morning commute to a snail's pace.
The tractor trailer and car crashed around 5:20 a.m. just past the Exit 19 off ramp in the Southport area.
The tandem tractor trailer's fuel tank ruptured, spilling about 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the highway. The DEP was called to help clean up the spill.
The driver of the car and a passenger were trapped inside their vehicle after their car smashed against the center median divider and came to rest against the Jersey barrier.
Police diverted traffic off the highway and around the crash scene.
Southbound traffic was not directly affected, but curiosity slowed drivers as they passed the crash.
