Hamden man killed in Rt. 8 crash

Torrington, Conn. (WTNH) - A 78-year old man was killed after being thrown from his car while driving on Route 8 in Torrington Thursday afternoon.

State police identify the man as Norman Shankman of Hamden. They say he was driving north when his 2007 Toyota Camry left the roadway, hit a guardrail and wound up in a dtich. He was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the car had already been in for service due to the recent Toyota recalls.

The crash is still under investigation.
