Wallingford, Conn. (WTNH) - Police believe they know the identity of a woman who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train.
According to Amtrak, train #470 traveling between New Haven and Springfield struck the victim around 10:51 am on the railroad tracks that run parallel to Old Colony Road in Yalesville, just south of the Meriden city line.
The train was carrying two passenger cars with 37 passengers came to a stop near Gypsy Lane in Meriden.
None of the passengers or crew members were injured in the collision. A bus will took them to Springfield and completed all the stops the shuttle would have made.
Emergency personnel found an adult female who had been struck by the train and killed instantly.
Investigators determined that she had been struck about one tenth of a mile south of the Meriden line.
The train remained at the scene until shortly after 1:00 pm, when it was released and continued north. The railroad tracks were released to Amtrak at approximately 3:00 pm.
Investigators believe they know the identity of the female and are working to positively identify her.
The investigation is continuing.
