GROTON, Conn. (AP) — For the second time in 12 years, Amtrak has paid a few million dollars to buy land in Groton from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the owner of Foxwoods Resort Casino.

The Day of New London reports that Amtrak paid $4 million for property on either side of the rail service's maintenance facility, which is on a site that Amtrak paid $5.5 million to buy from the Mashantucket Pequots in 2000.

Amtrak established the property as a maintenance base for its Northeast Corridor electrification system.

Amtrak is a tax-exempt agency and nearly $62,000 will be taken off Groton's annual tax rolls.
