HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut and New York area commuters will soon see in writing Metro-North's service and safety standards.
Hearst Connecticut Newspapers report a commuter group and Connecticut Department of Transportation have negotiated a nine-point document that promises a safe, reliable ride, accurate and timely updates about service delays and disruptions and clean restrooms and seating areas.
Commuters of the rail service also are assured that they will be brought to the closest station during service shutdowns so they may seek other transportation during extended service suspensions.
If an indefinite service suspension prevents a train from reaching a station, the railroad pledges emergency personnel will provide medical assistance and water. Timely information will be a top priority for onboard passengers.
Metro-North said the pledge will be displayed on trains, at rail stations and elsewhere in early 2012.
