WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- If you're one of the thousands of commuters ready to hop aboard Metro-North this morning, you're probably know it's often tough to find a parking space at train stations.
When the new station in West Haven opens next year there will be more than 600 new parking spots. But that won't help folks in Lower Fairfield County who spend years waiting for coveted parking permit.
Metro-North says ridership is increasing, but the number of spots at stations stays same. And it turns out permits are such hot commodity that many folks hold on to then even when they no longer commute.
There's even the so-called 'Suburban Legend' of the permits being transferred for big bucks.
So why not just build additional parking garages? The real estate in Lower Fairfield County is pretty pricey, and some folks think parking garages just don't fit in with the character of small towns.
