FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut's newest commuter railroad station will be the site of a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the end of a project that had been in the works for more than a decade.

The new Fairfield Metro station of Metro-North Commuter Railroad officially opens for passengers Monday. A ceremony marking the event will take place Friday afternoon at on the eastbound platform at the station on Black Rock Turnpike.

The station was a public-private partnership between the town of Fairfield, the state and a private developer, Black Rock Realty Co.

It will be the third station in Fairfield on the Metro-North railroad's busy New Haven Line, and fares from that station will be the same as those from the Fairfield Center and Southport stations.
