Conn. gov says priority is clearing roads

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut's governor says the main priority of the state's storm response is to clear roads that are impassable because of snow and stalled cars.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says 270 National Guard troops are on duty and he expects the storm recovery will take a number of days.

The governor said at a briefing Saturday that some people who were stranded in their cars were found suffering from hypothermia, and he urged residents to stay home. A travel ban remains in effect for state roads.

State police have responded to 1,600 calls for service over the last 24 hours. Malloy said that a woman in her 80s was killed Friday night in Prospect when she was struck by a vehicle as she was using a snow blower.
