Aquarion issues water emergency

Conserve or lose water

Bridgeport, Conn. (WTNH) - Aquarion Water Company says they are seeing unprecedented demand for water during this heat wave and are asking customers not to use water for things like watering their lawns and washing their cars.

Aquarion says demand is so high that customers may actually lose water service if they don't begin to conserve. Westport, Greenwich, Darien and New Canaan are most at risk, they say.

The company says they pumped out over 140 million gallons yesterday and expect the same today.

Don't use water to wash your driveways or sidewalks and don't wash your cars at home.

Aquarion is not the only water company having troubles keeping up with demand. Residents in the Greater New Haven area say they are seeing brown sediment coming out of their taps. The Regional Water Authority is aware of the problem and blame the increased demand.
