SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WTNH) - At least four people were killed in the severe storms that pushed through Massachusetts late Wednesday afternoon.
The governor there has declared a state of emergency.
The National Guard, the Red Cross and CL&P crews have been called in to help.
Officials say at least five tornadoes touched down.
The most severe damage right now is in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Families were sent running for cover as the tornadoes tore through homes and businesses.
Rescue crews went door to door looking for people who may have needed assistance. Also throughout the storm there were mandatory evacuations. Police and fire crews ar still on the scene looking for people who are injured or displaced.
Dozens of families are staying at the Mass. Mutual Center in down town Springfield where shelters have been set up.
