Nor'easter causes parking bans, closes roads

Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - During the Autumn Nor'easter, Governor Dannel P. Malloy signed an order banning non-emergency vehicles on the Wilbur Cross and Merritt Parkways as a result of the dangerous driving conditions.

Malloy urged residents to stay off the roads so the Department of Transportation workers could do their jobs safely.

Accidents are being reported throughout the state. The roads are slippery, and there have been numerous reports of down wires, branches, and trees. Already, one fatal accident was reported.

The Emergency Operations Center staffed by Department of Emergency Services, Public Protection, Transportation, Military, Public Health, Energy and Environmental Protection as well as representatives from CL&P, UI and AT&T will remain open throughout the duration of the storm.

In Cheshire, folks are urged to stay off of the roads until they are cleared, according to LT James Fasano, Administrative Commander and Public Information officer. Numerous tree branches have fallen and there are several power outages.

• Ashford: Rte 89 is closed at Supina Road
• Bethany: Bethany Road is closed due to a down tree on Rt 69 at Porter Hill.
• Bridgewater: Rt 133 by Wewaka
• Brookfield: Rt 133 by Obtuse Road
• Colebrook: Route 8 is closed by the saw mill
• Colchester: Rt 16 is closed between Bigilow and Waterhole Road
• Cornwall: Route 7 is closed between Rte 4 and Covered Bridge
• Cromwell: Rte 372 is closed at Franklin
• Durham: Route 17 by Dinatale Road
• East Granby: Rt 189 is closed at North Street
• Ellington: Rt 74 is clsoed at Grant Street
• Enfield: Rt 220 is closed between Rt 5 and I-91
• Glastonbury: Rt 83 by Shady Hill
• Haddam: Route 81 is closed north of Parker Hill Road. A car hit a tree, and now the tree is down in the road.
• Newington: Rt 175 is closed between Maple Hill Ave and Fenn Rd
• New Milford: Rt 202 is closed by Little Beard Road
• North Branford: Rt 17 is closed between Village St and West Wind Dr
• Ridgefield: Rt 822 is closed by Remmington Road
• Sharon: Rte 4 is closed west of Northrope
• Sherman: Rt 39 by Hubble Mountain Road
