New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - About 75,000 people are without power as a slow moving storm churns through the state.
CL&P says lower Fairfield County is hardest hit with about 57,000 outages - and the lights won't be on soon. Gusty winds in excess of 60mph are keeping CL&P crews sidelined.
About 14,000 people are without power in the U.I. service area with Fairfield and Bridgeport hardest hit.
Downed trees shut down parts of the Merritt Parkway near Exit 40 in Norwalk and near Exit 34 in Stamford.
The Town of Darien says they are responding to at least 50 fallen trees which have brought down power lines and causing property damage. Dozens of roads are completely closed.
Storm Team 8 says damaging winds will continue this evening. There is also a flood watch in effect statewide, with the shoreline most at risk.

The weather took a deadly turn in Westport after one person was killed when a tree fell on a car. Three others were injured.
In addition to the wind, there's also the pounding rain. A flood watch is in effect statewide. Authorities in Fairfield and Westport decided to issue a voluntary evacuation for shoreline residents. Ludlowe High School Shelter in Fairfield and the Westport Senior Center are open for shelter.
The Red Cross has also opened a shelter at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk.
