BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Bridgeport is one of the many communities taking a beating from this storm.

Monday night, city officials gave an update on how they're doing.

The wind is also a problem in many communities in Connecticut, many trees have gone down, including one on Main Street in Bridgeport, that did not take any wires with it, fortunately, other people were not so lucky.

A tree on Birmingham Street came down on both cars and a boat in the driveway, but missed a direct hit to the home. Strong winds have battered the Park City through the day, but city leaders are trying to stay on top of it all. The emergency operations center in Bridgeport is up and running.

Police have gone to a 12-hour staffing schedule, which doubles the amount of man power on the streets. They've been evacuating residents and shutting down flooded streets. Seven-hundred people are currently in the shelters there and they say, there is room for more, and it is okay to bring your pets. Two substations in the city are at risk of flooding. The Mayor says, they will likely be de-energized sometime after 11 p.m. Monday, plunging thousands into darkness.

At an afternoon press conference Mayor Bill Finch says.. the worst is yet to come.

"All of those in the flood plains in Bridgeport, all of those in the flood zones, have been notified to evacuate and we have physically contacted approximately 13,000 people living in low-lying areas and we have connected with many, many more than that through our reverse 911," said Mayor Finch. "The power outages could effect as many as 35,000 customers within the city of Bridgeport."

The good news so far in Bridgeport, is that there have been no reported injuries.
