MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A family in Milford has lost everything to Hurricane Sandy, after getting hit hard last year by Irene.
The waves were big during Tuesday's mid day high tide. Dennis and his 8-year-old Cheyanne had arrived at their house to view the damage. They had evacuated the other day.
"It's destroyed again, two years in a row. The front of the house is completely caved in. It was boarded shut and now there's no walls," Dennis said.
A 400 hundred pound steel stair was ripped off their balcony. "I've never seen it this bad. I've never seen the sand this high," Dennis said.
The house was destroyed in Irene and has been boarded up ever since. Now they don't know what to do.
When asked what it feels like to be back there, Dennis said, "It breaks your heart, after being here for 16 years. We built this house, so words just can't describe it."
They had been trying to get things going on the house since Irene hit, deciding whether or not to tear it down and rebuild or just repair it.
Their neighbors house was destroyed last year and had to be rebuilt.
"Last time the water was over the second floor deck. I was in the house last year. This year I wasn't," Dennis said.
Whatever was left of their house from last year, was completely destroyed this time around.
"It ripped all the sheet rock out. It ripped...everything. Gone," Dennis said.
News 8 asked Cheyanne what it was like to be at her old house and she said, "I'm very sad because I miss my old house. It's scary to see it because I remember all the good times I had here."
