East Haven Mayor expects quick recovery

(WTNH) --East Haven Mayor Joe Maturo said Sunday that he expects his town will recover quickly from the damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.

Maturo, who spoke on "Good Morning Connecticut" Sunday morning, said that he was pleased with the efforts of emergency workers and utility crews.

"The recovery, I think, will be quick," he said. "It started the day after the storm. FEMA will be down there, we will be down there giving any kind of assistance we can. By next summer, we should be back to where we were this summer after recouping from Irene."

The mayor also said that the damage in East Haven was not as extensive after Sandy as it was a year ago following Hurricane Irene, and that residents are getting used to severe weather.

"When you live along the shoreline, you're a pretty hearty bunch," he said. "360 days out of the year it's great down there, and 5 days out of the year in danger. But, our people are getting used to it now. We certainly feel their pain."
