NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Intense rainfall not only flooded streets, but it also caused problems inside some buildings.
Residents at the Berger Apartment complex in New Haven are still paying for all the rain that fell on Friday. Additional rain on Saturday did not make matters any better.
The complex is public housing for seniors and the handicapped.
Residents say that water rushed into the ground floor apartments and the building started to smell.
To make matters worse, they said that sinks started to back up and toilets overflowed.
Rosetta Gattison is in a wheelchair and she felt trapped.
"I was in a panic. I didn't know what to do. I had my daughter pull the emergency cord," Gattison said. "I couldn't get out."
This was just one of many buildings that was partially flooded out on Friday.
Heavy rains closed portions of Route 34 and even brought water up to the steps outside the News 8 building.
