GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — Greenwich officials who have been criticized for not updating the public about the town's emergency management plan now say they are doing everything possible to keep residents informed about Hurricane Sandy.

The Greenwich Time reports that First Selectman Peter Tesei says information about the town's emergency operations and how officials prepare for and respond to emergencies is public.

Several documents containing general hurricane information are available on the town website and officials have updated through the reverse 911 system.

Greenwich Time has submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain materials in the emergency plan related to hurricane planning and response.

Tesei says the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, not the town, stipulates that some information in town emergency plans is exempt from Freedom of Information requests.
