Hurricane halts flights at Conn.'s Bradley airport

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (AP) — Flights are coming to a halt at Bradley International Airport as Hurricane Sandy moves further inland.

Airport spokesman John Wallace says commercial flights will stop at 1 p.m. Monday. Airline traffic is expected to resume on Tuesday.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said Monday that the airport, which serves Connecticut and western Massachusetts, faces the same trouble affecting all transportation because of the massive storm. Truck traffic on Connecticut's highways will be limited and commuter rail is being suspended.

Nationally, airlines canceled nearly 7,500 flights.

Even before the announcement that flights will stop, Wallace said few passengers were arriving and the airport's parking garage is nearly empty.
