GUILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A large tree fell on a house in Guilford due to strong thunderstorms.

News 8 has learned that the tree fell on a house at 1940 Boston Post Road.

The Weather Lab is on scene and Paula spoke with News 8 about what happened when the tree crashed into her house.

"My son was in the house and it sounded like an earthquake happened," Paula said, "and he ran to go upstairs and all he could see was daylight."

Paula said that her son and all of their pets were able to get out of the house safely.

"As soon as [officials] give us the okay, we can go inside and collect what's left," Paula explained. "I don't know where we'll go from here."

There have been many reports of trees down from Guilford, all the way northward into the Manchester area.

The same storm caused the National Weather Service to issue Tornado Warnings in both Long Island and across much of central and north-central Connecticut.

A tornado was confirmed in Ronkonkoma, N.Y. and that was the same storm that crossed Long Island Sound and slammed into Guilford.
