MANSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A house fire Wednesday morning was likely caused by a lightning strike, fire department officials said.

Around 8 a.m. Wednesday, Mansfield firefighters responded a house fire on Warrenville Road (Route 89).

Upon arrival, officials determined that damage to the home was likely caused by a lightning strike.

Two people were inside the home when lightning struck and one was sent to Windham Hospital for precautionary reasons.

Strong thunderstorms rolled through the state early Wednesday and numerous lightning strikes accompanied the storms.
