FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- FEMA's already hit the ground running along the Connecticut shoreline to help in Sandy's aftermath, and come next week more disaster recovery centers are opening in Connecticut.
Governor Malloy announced Friday and two FEMA canvassers told News 8 Saturday that new FEMA mobile centers are opening in East Lyme, Fairfield and Norwalk to help homeowners who suffered a loss from Sandy.
Like many others who were affected, Lee and Carolyn Kamlet lost their furnace, their washer and dryer and many belongings, all in a trash dumpster that's in their driveway.
They evacuated but FEMA picked up the expense of their hotel FEMA was there the day after it happened.
"Within three days they deposited a check in our bank account for what we qualified for," Lee Kamlet said. "It was that fast."
"In all my life I've never seen anyone from FEMA, now I've seen four people," Carolyn Kamlet said.
So far more than $2 million in federal disaster assistance has been approved to help individuals deal with disaster expense in Sandy's Aftermath.
Fairfield's Disaster Recovery Center opens on Monday at the Fairfield Senior Center on Mona Terrace. East Lyme's opens at the Town Hall on Tuesday. For Norwalk, the center at City Hall opens on Thursday.
