Waterbury (WTNH) - People in Waterbury spent the day cleaning up after a flash flood hit the town yesterday.
Lightning and thunder are still hitting the city. With the beginning of the holiday weekend, the town hasn't been able to get enough asphalt to cover the damage.
The scene, witnesses say, was almost biblical.
Water cascaded down roads, washing them out.
Today, excavators were brought in to fill holes and repair the roadways.
"Crews are on top of it right now and we're going to get some assistance too, it should be good for the holiday," John Lawlor, Waterbury DPW Director, said.
It wasn't only the roads that were washed out, it was also the telephone lines under the roads that were damaged as well.
About 300 people were still without service at around 6 p.m. AT&T has been on the scene all day repairing the damage.
