Tornado in Wethersfield confirmed

Whethersfield (WTNH) - National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down late yesterday afternoon in Wethersfield.

Downed trees and power lines are still a big problem tonight.

The mayor of Wethersfield has asked that anyone that does not live in the city to stay out at least until Sunday. The cleanup process is underway.

The heavy winds from Friday's storm left a long path of destruction all along Wolcott Hill road. Trees falling in just about every yard on houses.

Repair crews were quick to arrive. However, they won't be leaving anytime soon.

"Right now, we got here last night and we'll stay for the next three days, next three or four at least," Joe Yost, from Advanced Tree Removal, said.

And it wasn't just those people who could profit from the situation. People came from all over the neighborhood to help.

"we were coming down the street and saw all the wood. I had my saw and stuff with me," Steven Phillips, from Wethersfield, said. "We decided to help people clean up and get some wood while we were here."

The clearing will continue for several days. The community seems determined to clean up and move on with some normalcy saying it's just Mother Nature.

"No one got injured. You just have clean up and not worry about anything else," Hopefully we won't have anything like that again. But half the tree are now gone, if it ever does again," Phillips said.
