(WTNH) --West Haven Mayor John Picard said Sunday morning that his town was "lucky" to have survived Superstorm Sandy without more damage.
In an appearance on "Good Morning Connecticut," Picard said that he was thankful that the storm did not hit during high tide, and that there was not much rain accompanying it.
"It would have been much worse," Picard said.
He also thanked emergency workers for their help during the storm and recovery efforts.
"We're lucky. I'm lucky," Picard said. "We had a great response from our emergency workers, police, fire, the board of health. Everybody stepped up."
Power had been restored for more than 98 percent of people in West Haven as of Sunday morning.
