Sandy town-by-town shelters

(WTNH) -- Here's a town-by-town list of shelter locations for Sandy. The list will be continuously updated.

BRANFORD -- Shelters are located at the Branford High School at 185 East Main Street and the Mary Murphy School at 14 Brushy Plain Road for families with pets.

BRIDGEPORT -- Three schools are opened as shelters -- Jettie Tisdale, 275 Hollister Avenue; Geraldine Johnson, 427 Lexington Avenue, and Cesar Batalla, 606 Howard Avenue.

UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT -- All residents of North/South Hall were bussed to the shelter at Cesar Batalla Elementary School in Bridgeport. Residents of all other halls, as well as students who live off-campus in the immediate vicinity, were bussed to a shelter at Sacred Heart University.

CHESHIRE -- Shelter open at Cheshire Youth Center at 559 South Main St.

COLCHESTER -- Showers are available at Bacon Academy at 611 Norwich Ave.

DARIEN -- Shelter open at Darien High School in the lower gymnasium.

EAST HAVEN -- East Haven High School is opened as a shelter. The East Haven food pantry will be open on Friday between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. providing emergency packets to anyone who needs food.

EAST LYME -- Shelter at East Lyme Middle School, at 31 Society Rd., in Niantic -- Serving several towns.

FAIRFIELD -- Food and water are available for hurricane victims in need at Roger Ludlow High School, located at 785 Unqowo Rd.

FARMINGTON -- An emergency shelter is open at Farmington High School on Monteith Drive.

GREENWICH -- As the number of residents seeking shelter continues to decrease, the Department of Health and American Red Cross are planning to consolidate their shelters to one location at Eastern Middle School in Riverside as of Friday, November 2.

GROTON -- There is an emergency shelter at Fitch Senior High, for people who do not have an alternative place to go.

GUILFORD -- The community center on Church Street is open for a shelter.

LEDYARD -- Any town resident in need of shelter may go to the Groton Senior Center, located at 102 Newtown Rd., in Groton. A charging station is available at LHS from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday; at the Senior Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and also at Bill Library, GF Library, GF Comm. Center, and Town Hall during normal business hours.

LYME -- Shelter at East Lyme Middle School, at 31 Society Rd., in Niantic -- Serving several towns.

MONTVILLE -- Shelter at East Lyme Middle School, at 31 Society Rd., in Niantic -- Serving several towns.

MILFORD -- Jonathan Law High School is opened as a primary shelter and is equipped to accept pets.

NEW HAVEN -- Both shelters are closed.

NEW LONDON -- Shelter at East Lyme Middle School, at 31 Society Rd., in Niantic -- Serving several towns.

NEWINGTON -- The shelter is closed. Residents who are without power and need assistance should contact the Human Services Department at 860-665-8590

NORWALK -- The Shelter is at Brien McMahon HS on Highland Ave. The shelter is pet friendly.

NORWICH -- Kelly Middle School on Mahan Drive is an emergency shelter. Pets are welcome.

OLD LYME -- Shelter at East Lyme Middle School, at 31 Society Rd., in Niantic -- Serving several towns.

ORANGE -- The shelter is at High Plains Community Center. Residents should bring toiletries, medication, and bedding. Pets are welcome.

PLAINFIELD -- First Selectman Paul Sweet announced Plainfield High School will be opened as a Regional Shelter. Meals will be available for those staying at the shelter only. Shower usage will be available to those without water and power supplies. Plainfield Town Hall will also be open for use and can be used as temporary shelter.

STRATFORD -- Bunnell High School is opened as a shelter.

WATERFORD -- Shelter at East Lyme Middle School, at 31 Society Rd., in Niantic -- Serving several towns.

WATERTOWN -- The town's emergency shelter is at Watertown High School.

WEST HAVEN -- Carrigan School on Tetlow Street is opened as the town's shelter. Pets are allowed, however you must bring food, a leash, medications and a cage or travel kennel. Parking is also available.

WESTBROOK -- Daisy Ingraham School, located at 105 Goodspeed Drive, is opened for shelter.

VERNON -- An emergency shelter is located at the Vernon Center Middle School, 777 Hartford Turnpike. Bring medications, bedding, towels and personal hygiene items with you to the shelter. No meal will be served until Monday morning. Pets are permitted but must be caged.
