Some Conn. polling places remain without power

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Secretary of the State Denise Merrill says about 95 or so polling places across Connecticut remain without electricity.

She said the state's two largest electric utilities — Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating — have assured her they are working hard to restore power in time for Tuesday's elections.

William Quinlan, senior vice president for CL&P, said Thursday that the voting locations are on the utility's high priority list for restoration. If power cannot be restored by Election Day, CL&P is considering options such as backup generators.

Anthony J. Marone III, senior vice president at United Illuminating, said 143 of the 192 polling places located in UI's territory currently have power. He said 25 are without electricity and 24 are still being verified.
