NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- People are stocking up in fear of getting stuck but it's important to stock up on the right things in case you do find yourself stranded.
Many have lived through these storms before but sometimes we can become a little too relaxed so it's always a good idea to be prepared even if you don't plan on venturing out in the storm.
When snow is forecasted in feet, sometimes preparing becomes a feat.
"It's been pretty crazy. People are worried about the storm," said David Katz, Goody's owner.
Folks are grabbing what they think are the essentials.
"I guess milk, bread, water is what everybodies is going for, but how many people are going to use their bread and their milk," said Lynn Rosella of North Haven.
"We got plenty of batteries. We got flashlights. We got some lanterns. My wife's at the store now going grocery shopping to stock up on a few of the necessities," said Frank Capuano.
"You're snowed in, what's the one thing you need," asked News 8's Stephanie Simoni.
"Beer, I'm going now to get some Beer," said Joe Barnaby of East Haven.
Beer is not a top priority according to the American Red Cross. Batteries, shovel, and an alternate heating option might be a good idea.
"I have a generator and I have a wood burning stove," said Barnaby.
If you plan on being out on the roads make sure you have your emergency road kit. If you do get stuck you're going to want to keep warm with a hat, gloves, emergency blankets, flashlights and have some food in the car. Also keep your cell phones charged.
"If we get a foot of snow where are you going to go? Why would you want to go anyway," said Barnaby.
"It's a blizzard what are we going to do, stay home and enjoy," said Rosella.
