Storm-related price gouging reported in Conn.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut consumer officials say they have received about 20 complaints of price gouging related to Superstorm Sandy.

The New Haven Register reports that the state Department of Consumer Protection says 14 of the complaints accused gas stations of selling overpriced fuel.

A few consumers also have complained about the price of power generators that are in demand during electricity outages.

Connecticut has been placed in a state of "abnormal market disruption" for energy resources, including heating oil, gasoline, propane, natural gas, electricity and wood fuels. The designation means additional penalties may apply if those commodities are sold at an "unconscionably excessive price."
