Storms knock out power to thousands

(WTNH) -- Thunderstorms caused damage and power outages across Connecticut on Sunday.

As of 9:15 p.m. 11,883 customers are without power across the state. Most of those were storm-related.

A strong thunderstorm ripped through portions of north-central Connecticut shortly after 3:15 p.m. and caused many trees and power lines to come down.

The Suffield Fire Department reported a blown transformer and numerous wires down in the town of Suffield.

Nearby South Windsor and Ellington also reported some storm damage.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into Monday morning.
