United Illuminating surveys about storm response

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — The United Illuminating Co. is conducting a survey to find out what customers thought of its work restoring power during and after Superstorm Sandy.

The New Haven Register reports that UI's random telephone survey began last week and is expected to end soon after Thanksgiving.

Spokesman Michael West says UI wants to know what customers think, what their expectations are of the utility and how they believe UI can do a better job.

Among the questions UI is asking is whether customers would pay three to six times more for electricity to pay to bury power lines underground.

UI serves 325,000 customers in 17 towns in the New Haven area and Bridgeport. The utility had a peak of 187,000 of its customers without power during the Oct. 29 storm.
