Westport, Conn. (WTNH) - There was a tragic accident in Westport after a tree fell on car killing one person and injuring three.
It happened just after 7pm on Park Lane. The victim's name has not been released.
This storm is packing quite a punch, knocking out power to tens of thousands of people. But because the winds are so strong, CL&P decided to err on the side of caution and keep their crews off the road in lower Fairfield County.
Check the Storm Team 8 forecast.
Fairfield says they responded to over 140 calls this evening, including a fallen tree on a SUV on Wakeman Road. The man was rescued and is recovering at an area hospital.
In addition to gusty winds, there's also the pounding rain. That has prompted officials in Fairfield to issue a voluntary evacuation for residents along the shoreline. Folks can seek shelter at Ludlowe High School.
Shelters have also opened at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk and the Westport Senior Center in Westport.
