WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- With spring just a day away, winter is giving Connecticut residents a dose of snow, sleet and slushy roads this morning.
Dozens of schools delayed their opening for the day. Only a handful decided to close their doors.
"This is no longer a snow storm," Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Steve MacLaughlin said during Good Morning Connecticut at 6:30 a.m. "This is mainly a freezing rain event north of I-95 at this point."
Overnight snow and a crust of ice coated roads across the state. A shiny glaze was visible on the pavement in many places. Highway ramps and overpasses were expected to be a bit more dangerous.
"There's still some slushy accumulations out there," Jeff Adams from the Connecticut Department of Transportation said.
Along I-95 temperatures were already above freezing, but drivers could still expect to see icy spots. To the north temperatures were still below freezing before sunrise.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in place for all of inland Connecticut until later in the morning.
Temperatures were expected to drop into the 20's overnight tonight. "It is going to be cold for the next couple of days," MacLaughlin said.
