Niantic, Conn (WTNH) - Marinas are full of activity because of our wild winter weather. Boats are getting hauled-in so they don't get damaged.
If you think cleaning off your car is difficult, try cleaning off a boat that is 15-20 feet high. With the shrink wrap a lot of the snow just comes right off, but the problem is where to put all of that snow.
"Right now it's about up to your knees," said Billy Martin from Three Belles Marina in Niantic.
Martin has never seen a winter like this at the marina. 172 boats, their shrink wrapped shapes looking like snow covered mountains. So much snow, with nowhere to go.
"Basically, like everybody else, we're running out of places to push the snow. You can't dump it in the water like what used to be done years ago," Martin said.
The marina also houses 72 boats inside a warehouse. Three levels of racks under a steel roof which so far hasn't shown any signs of danger.
Most of the concern comes with having to trudge through the growing piles of snow in between the boats.
"It's a tough time of year, but we'll get through it. Spring is just around the corner I'm sure," said Martin.
The first thing workers do here each morning is to check the stands and adjust them if that's needed. Because the ground is frozen, they're usually okay set in place, but once the ground starts to thaw that's when there's danger the boats could start to wobble.
