(WTNH) -- A winter mix and  mess on the roads Thursday morning, as Mother Nature hands us another and hopefully the last storm of the season.

Wind, ice and snow. Even though it wasn't a lot of snow in Tolland, it was enough to make the eastbound lanes of I-84 very slippery. Slippery enough to cause a multi-tractor trailer pileup. It involved two overturned tandem FedEx trucks, and some other vehicles. It closed down all of I-84 east for hours.

"We were stuck over two hours in traffic," said Mike Parillo, of East Haven. "We should've watched the signs that said accident ahead, take the next route, but we thought it wouldn't be so long and we were stuck for more than two hours."

And it took a while to clean up. Around noon, it had been about three hours since the accident happened and eastbound was still closed and the westbound lanes have just the shoulder open.

Big rigs were backed up for miles and miles. For smaller vehicles, troopers started turning them around and sending them back to the previous exit.

"The troopers are now re-directing everybody and putting us down the shoulder," said David Santos, of Long Island, NY.

"They're literally turning you around and sending you the wrong way," questioned News 8's Kent Pierce.

"Yeah, they're literally...I watched people back out for about 30 minutes wondering if it was the right thing, and when the trooper said go ahead it was...go ahead," Santos said.
