MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- More than a week after the blizzard of 2013, there are communities where snow still hasn't been cleared from sidewalks, causing a dangerous situation.

News 8's Ali Reed returned to the scene of a deadly accident in Milford to see if things there have improved.

One week ago, a family was hit by a car as they walked along the shoulder of a busy road in Milford. The blizzard had left the sidewalks impassable, so they were forced to walk in the road. Two of the family members were killed: 53-year-old Kevin Tanski died the next day, while his 51-year-old wife Brenda died this morning. Their 21-year-old daughter survived, but is now left orphaned.

It's a tragedy that Milford residents News 8 talked to say is fresh on their minds, especially since seven days later it's still hard to get around on foot.

"It's very scary a lot of cars don't slow down at all and they just don't care," said Kristin Borrelli, of Milford.

"And they don't move out of the way either, they just move right passed you," said Damien Torres, of Milford.

While some sidewalks have been shoveled, others have not, leaving those on foot with no other option but to walk on the busy road.

"Most of the sidewalks we have to go on to cross the street are not plowed at all, they haven't even been touched. Yeah, either that or it's halfway plowed and then it stops so you have to go back out on the street again," said Borrelli and Torres.

"That's a tough one because the plows had nowhere to put the snow and they've been doing the best they can I think," said Milford resident Ricky Ferrigno.

Other nearby towns and cities are facing the same problem: how to get all the snow off the sidewalks, so the people can get back on them.

"Like I said you have to walk in the middle of the streets and God forbid with all this traffic going around it's crazy," said Tajauna Peoples, of Bridgeport.
