NEW YORK (CNN) - For one private collector, it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

A buyer purchased a piano on Friday, which you may recognize from one of the most beloved scenes in all of film: the playing of "As Time Goes By" in the 1942 classic "Casablanca."

Sotheby's New York auctioned the piano for more than $600,000 Friday.

That price was a little lower than expected for the 58-key piano used in the scene with Dooley Wilson, Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart.
